Tips to Finding Happiness

Happiness is one of those ideas that can be perceived very differently by different people.

Why?

A lot of people see the way to gain happiness in different ways. A lot of people even put rules on their happiness — “I will be happy once ___ happens”.

However, one of the major ways to ensure unhappiness in life is by putting those restrictions on when and how happiness can occur for you.

Often, these rules come from the previous beliefs we took on or created for ourselves that are based on what we have experienced or learned from others.

But this just keeps us in a constant cycle of pushing and pulling happiness in all different directions with no secure idea of how or when we are “allowed” or even “able to” be happy.

There are some major things to keep in mind when talking about finding happiness:

  1. There are no rules to happiness
  2. You don’t have to wait to be happy
  3. You can be happy now and not just when something happens
  4. You can be happy and sad at the same time and for different or similar reasons
  5. Happiness is ALWAYS an inside job

These five reminders are SO important when you really start asking yourself questions about your own happiness. Remembering these things will also help you to understand that happiness does not need to have expectations or conditions presupposed upon it.

Rather happiness is something that comes free that you can decide to accept into your life.

So how can you find happiness?

I understand that happiness may be a foreign or even uncomfortable topic for some people. Especially with the idea that you can be happy now without conditions.

Keeping those five reminders at the front of your mind, let’s now discuss some tips to help you find happiness.

Tips to find happiness:

  1. Learn to become happy with where you are at now/what you have currently while still working for what you want
  2. Be present at this moment
  3. Do at least one thing you love to do each day
  4. Begin practicing gratitude
  5. Start asking yourself questions that lead to progress and not dwelling i.e. “how can I use this”, “what is good about this”, “what am I grateful for”
  6. Start and/or end the day by reminding yourself of what you are grateful for, what makes you happy, excited, and proud
  7. Change what you focus on in challenging situations

Now, there are many other ways that you can begin your pursuit of happiness. These seven ways are, in my opinion, some of the most powerful ones I can think of in this moment. (I’ve written a lot of other articles on these topics so if you want further explanations scroll through my other articles).

The reason for that is because these tips focus on how you can find happiness within by changing the way you look at things and addressing little things you can implement daily that over time will change your life.

I also want to note that happiness is not something that comes from saying what you are grateful for one day and never again. Happiness is a practice just like anything else and we can’t expect our lives to make a complete 360 in just a few days of implementing some of these tips.

The major way to ensure long-term happiness is by finding ways to be happy that are consistent and not short-term, material things.

If being happy is worth it to you, you will find a way to be happy and work on practicing it in your life. Where there’s a will there’s a way, the trick is to not give up on yourself and what you are capable of feeling.

How will you find happiness today?
