The Decisions you Make Shape the Life you Create
You have the power to shape your own destiny, so why aren’t you?
“It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.” — Tony Robbins
We all have the power to decide where our life goes. What we do, what we feel, how we look at things, who we interact with, how we let our past define us etc.
That’s not to say we can control every single thing we experience because we simply can’t. Sometimes there are circumstances out of our control in which we have no power over and therefore can not decide its outcome.
However, you are the creator in your own world which means you can decide how you let those external circumstances influence the direction of your life (how you react, feel, and internalize it).
For example, something that is out of most people's control is if their work closes and they are out of a job. Most likely you could not have done anything about it, but it still affects you directly.
So you can’t decide on the external events that take place but you can decide how this affects the course of your life. Some people may take on the belief that they will never find another job, sulk in their unemployment, and never get back on their feet. Other people will use this to their advantage to find a better and more fulfilling job for themselves.
The path you go down is based on the decision you make in response to the uncontrollable hardship you experienced, not the hardship itself.
This concept can be confusing for some people, which is understandable. Some of you may be asking “how can something like that not affect me?? How can I just decide to be totally okay with losing my job??”
What I am saying does not mean that losing your job (or whatever your circumstance is) will not affect you or you can’t feel how you feel about it. However, I am saying that it doesn’t have to ruin your life.
When people are passive to the idea that you can shape your own destiny based on your decisions or strictly believe they are a bystander in their life they are in a victim state.
Being in a victim state means that you take no responsibility for the path your life takes and believe that everything you have experienced is a result of external factors. It includes the thought that everything is happing to me, not for me. In other words, there is little value placed on the ability to decide your destiny.
However, what people in this victim state don’t understand is that even this is a choice that is shaping their life. The moment you decide you are the victim of your life is the moment your destiny is decided. Even passivity is a choice.
So with all that being said what will you decide?
Will you decide to be an active participant in your own life or will you be the victim and let life control you?
The choice is yours to make but remember it will shape your destiny.
