Listen to Your Heart, Literally.
The truth is the answers to all your questions are within arms' reach.
I was having a hard time coming up with a topic for this article. I was searching the depths of my brain, thinking back to things I had experienced or things I know other people have experienced and nothing clicked.
I was putting myself in a time crunch because I started school in 30 minutes so I started to look up some topic ideas based on podcasts I had listened to. I thought maybe I could get some inspiration from there and expand on whatever the title was.
As soon as I opened Spotify a song popped into my head: “Listen to your heart” by Roxette. Even if you don’t know the song, the only part that matters is the title, for our purposes. Now I didn’t catch it at first but after about 15 seconds I stopped searching Spotify and caught myself singing these lyrics in my head.
I became aware of my thoughts, began to process this, and said to myself, I didn’t hear the song playing anywhere so it is probably telling me something in regards to what I am doing right now.
This small sign showed me two things — 1, I don’t need to search or push for an answer because the answer will come to me when I am ready for it. 2, the topic for this article needs to be, quite literally, listen to your heart!
My story is a great example of what it means to listen to your heart. I was searching and pushing to find my answer but all I needed to do was be a little more patient and it would reveal itself. Your heart knows the right time for you to understand things, all you need to do is listen.
Therefore, in order to find what you are looking for all you need to do is listen within. It does not always need to be such a complex process of searching. Sometimes the simplest explanation is indeed the right one and you usually already know that answer.
In fact, answers come from ourselves all the time! If you are thinking about something or doing something take a moment to notice any thoughts that unconsciously pop into your head. Most likely it will provide you with an important piece of your puzzle.
It can be a song, a phrase, a word, or even from events that occur in your dreams. These are all examples of ways you can retrieve the answers you need from yourself.
This can be a challenging process and frankly, I am still working on listening to my own heart/intuition every day.
However, I understand how it works and the huge advantages it brings once you allow yourself to listen to the answers that come inside of you rather than outside of you.
Sometimes I even ask myself, if it is so simple and easy then why can’t I do it more often?? I can imagine many of you reading this may also be asking yourself the same question.
If this is a challenging process for you, you might be someone who is unable to let go of control, doesn’t have the patience to wait for an answer, tends to overthink, has a hard time being still in your mind and/or body, or are skeptical.
For me, it’s the letting go of control that gets in my way from time to time.
Of course, there could be other reasons but those are the most common ones, and the way to solve it is by getting out of your own way and not let your ego take over.
You will soon learn that tuning into yourself and listening to your heart opens so many doors to opportunities and answers you thought would take you years to get to.
The method is easy but the process of getting to a place of inner stillness takes work. However, the work is all done within. This is usually the toughest work to do which is why many people are not able to tune into their heart’s words.
But keep in mind that the benefits of listening within are HUGE and will open up an entire world of answers, insight, and awareness.
Your heart and soul want to be heard. They can give you information that can not be found anywhere else. Let them guide you in your endeavors and be the light that gets you through tough times. They represent your highest self and therefore, harbor all the answers you could ever need.
They will send you all your answers if you are willing to stop, listen, and accept.
Sincerely,
