How Awareness Helped me Write This Article
I am sitting at my desk, unsure of what to write about but not wanting to force an idea. At the same time, I want to figure it out so I can get on with the rest of my busy day.
In this process, I have begun staring outside my window. Maybe procrastinating, maybe just spacing out but I am definitely not thinking and just noticing.
Suddenly the tree (pictured above) outside my window catches my attention. I become very aware of the movements the tree makes in the wind. It is a subtle whipping of the branches back and forth that makes the leaves flutter like little wings.
There is a bundle of unbloomed flowers that are awaiting the springtime so they can blossom. They sit patiently in the tree, enduring the weather in their small casing until their time has come.
I find myself finding joy in watching such a simple yet peaceful thing. Thoughts of the need to get things done suddenly disappear from my consciousness and it’s just the tree.
However, after a minute or so my awareness begins to shift from the tree to my chest. My heartbeat has suddenly become stronger. I can feel the thudding of every beat my heart makes. Bum bum, bum bum, bum bum.
The beating of my heart makes me a little uneasy because I become aware of all the different things that are working internally inside my body. The fact that there are all these tiny little functions happening automaticly to keep us alive and well is an interesting concept many of us take for granted.
Along with the uneasiness, I also feel comforted by my heartbeat because it is a sign that I am aware of more than what is externally around me. I have become aware of my inner self, the beating of my heart, the breathing in my lungs, the grumbling of my stomach. All signs that my awareness has shifted from the delicate branches to what lies within my physical body.
Awareness
Awareness is the theme to my story. When you stop rushing and start relaxing, noticing, and listening you become aware of more than what you notice on the surface.
Small details become more apparent and ideas sprout from places you never imagined. Having a stronger awareness can also help you to discover answers to your questions by noticing the signs that are around and within.
When I was staring at the tree I felt as if my attention was being pulled to observe it, there was something in this small act that I needed to notice. As my heart started beating stronger and stronger I knew it was a sign that the tree had answered my question on what to write about.
What was I doing and thinking while my heartbeat got stronger? Well, I was watching this tree of course. But I realized it’s not so much about the tree itself but what I was doing as a result of being pulled to notice this tree. I was becoming aware of it. Aware of its movements, sounds, and behavior with the wind.
Thus, as you may have noticed, awareness is this article’s topic.
Awareness is key to living in the present and being more conscious of yourself and the world around you.
It can make you realize things you would have never taken into consideration, and notice things about people that help you be more empathetic. It assists you in understanding that the world does not revolve around you. There are so many experiences you have not endured and trees outside your window you have not noticed.
We all live a completely different life and only know as much as our experiences have taught us. However, by practicing becoming more aware you increase your understanding of more than just yourself.
Plus being more aware of yourself helps you listen to your needs, be conscious of your unhealthy behaviors, and tune into your intuition and higher self to help lead you through life.
Awareness is a simple act that can be done anytime and anywhere. All it takes is patience and observation. Start by quieting your mind, watching a tree, and noticing changes in your mood, thoughts, and bodily reactions. They are all signs poiting you to what you need to know if you put them together.
