A Practice Of Staying Centered

Last month I started a new monthly reflection practice.

At the beginning of each month, I journal about everything going on currently in my life and where I am at emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Then, based on this reflection I use my intuition to pick 3 priorities to focus on for the entire month. For August, one of my priorities is to practice staying centered and grounded.

This felt like a big priority for me because during July I learned a lot about the importance of staying centered in yourself.

When you are able to remain centered, in your heart, it becomes harder for external things to shake you up. The outside world becomes more of a lesson, something to observe and filter through rather than a direct influence on your heart and mind.

In addition to being centered in general, it’s also about being centered and grounded in my beliefs and personal thoughts.

A big lesson I’ve recently learned is that for a long time I’ve easily been able to be shaken out of my own beliefs. Meaning I know what I feel but when other people express their own opinions I have easily taken them into consideration which sometimes has made me very confused.

Therefore, in the month of August, introducing a practice of staying heart-centered involves not just being grounded in me but also feeling so strongly centered in my beliefs that other people’s opinions don’t automatically change everything I thought I knew. Instead, I wish to use them as something to test my beliefs and filter them through what I feel is true.

Could you be more centered in yourself too?

The need to find your grounding center will be different for everyone. As opposed to me, maybe your shift to being more centered comes from the need to stay present or more in tune with your authentic self.

Whatever your experience is, staying centered is a practice. With all practices, there must be repetitive actions taking place to make it a habit and to fully be aware of what finding your center looks like.

Here are a few ways I am going to practice being more centered that you can join me in this month:

* Meditation

* Grounding practice

* Journaling about what you truly feel

* Listening more to your intuition/gut feelings

* Daily self-check-ins

Remember, this is a practice. You may not be able to completely center and ground yourself within a few days but you don’t have to either. This is not a practice of being perfect it’s a practice of improvement. If you commit to this and feel like it’s a big priority to you you will find the improvement you desire.
